Kitchen/Diningroom Top Treatment, the Bistro Valance

The bistro valance is a simple tailored look usually hanging from medallions holders. My client had an existing wood pole that was stained and varnishe the color of the woodwork in the home so I mounted the valance on the pole using tabs and velcro. The treatment underneath the bistro valance is a Hunter Douglas Duette Vertiglide. This shade moves from left to right on a sliding door. It uses the Duette honeycomb fabric and places it vertically with the door. Excellent energy efficiency as well !

Lining with a contrast companion fabric really went well with the brick red face fabric.

On the sides of the top treatment we made the "tails" slightly longer than the others that were seperating the sections.

This is above the kitchen sink.

This simple looking top treatment was just what the client asked for, she was very happy !

Cuff Top Valance for a "Western Flair"

This was a fun project to do for my client. She renovated an existing porch into a cozy sitting room to entertain. She wanted a western looking theme for this room. The walls were painted a faux leather look and the woodwork stained to look like a knotty pine. On one end of the room was a fireplace with the stacked stone on the wall all the way to the ceiling.

The room had a row of nine windows wrapping the area. We chose the cuff top valance mounted on pegs that were hammered with a rustic finish. The fabric had a geometric design as pictured below.

A solid copper red color was used as the lining and the cuff for the valance. The hemline was trimmed with a tasseled trim the complimented the fabric.

To add privacy we added a gathered sheer cafe on the inside of the frame. After installation my client was anxious to get the furniture into the room. She was very happy with the results !

Daddy's Ties

With the holidays near I'm thinking of my parents who are no longer with us. I thought I would share a project that I made for my sisters after my Dad passed away. I used his many neck ties and made them a wallhanging for their home. Below are photos of the wall hanging keepsakes.

I used a log cabin pattern for the center which worked well because neckties don't have a lot of fabric width to them.

My Mother liked red,white & blue things so he always had some ties with a little of these colors

Placing the wallhaning on the points was another option. On the back of the wallhangings I made a pocket with this laminated insert below.

We miss him !

Diningroom Window Treatment

A tailored shaped valance for a diningroom window trimmed in a really pretty beaded trim from Ado Corporation. The top treatment was interlined to give it some body because of the 'flat sections'. This top treatment also had inverted pleats with a contrast fabric that added to the bronze color in the beaded trim.

The stationary panels were installed underneath the top treatment to add height to the window. The fabric was Mitchell Fabrics : Regal Satin : Color, Mustard and the contrast pleats were Regal Satin : Color, Copper.

My client was very happy with her new look in the formal diningroom. Installed just in time for the holidays !

Karmen Valance

The Karmen Valance from M'Fay Patterns is simple tailored design. The center of the valance has a separate flat, shaped, underlay that pulls forward and attaches to the flat sections with buttons.

The side jabots are a flat pointed tab with an overlay horn that

attaches over the jabot. The Karmen valance is mounted with loops

that are attached to the back of the sections and then

installed with the decorative medallions.

Windows on either side of the bed made

this treatment a classy look !

Tapered/Pleated Top Treatment

This top treatment was a very simple style for above the kitchen sink.

The fabric was formed into folds across the entire width of the window. The deep golds, rusty reds, chocolate brown and olive greens really were striking in this kitchen.

Above the sliding door this treatment worked well too ! A tight fit between cabinets on either side made the installation a little tricky ! This treatment really softened the sliding door ! The results...a very happy client !

The Mandolin Valance

This top treatment is called the mandolin valance from M'Fay

patterns.It was fabricated with a warm textured fabric and contrast

lined with a chocolate brown lining. The bottom edge of the

top treatment was finished with a 1" wide multi-colored

gimp that complimented the fabrics that were used.

The windows on each side of the fireplace were framed with this

top treatment.

Overall a nice finished look for this livingroom !

The Shawl Valance

This is the shawl valance M'Fay pattern #9315. The top treatment is lined with a rich chocolate brown it was also used as the banded edge and inverted boxpleats . I altered the pattern a bit to fit a wider window. I also had to cut the small striped fabric a little differently to make the stripe go the right direction on the side cascades. My client had a bedspread that had browns and khakis so the fabric complimented the bedspread well.

This window was on the opposite side of the room. I had to alter the pattern to fit a narrower window. The side cascades really softened the look. This very simple, tailored look was what my client was looking for, overall the client was very pleased with the final look !

Kirtz Hardwood Shutters Craftsmanship - Naturally

These shutters were mounted on a window in a dinette area

near the kitchen. They were made of maple wood and

had a beautiful "burnt sugar" stain. The 2.5" movable louvers

were just what the window needed. The four panels opened as a

two panel bifold so the client could clear the panels from the window

opening when neccessary.These shutters were manufactured here

The Imperial Valance ....just the right topper for the queen in the kitchen !

This top treatment is called the imperial valance. The flat scallop
sections were custom made to fit the width of the opening. The
fabric had a small geometric buttercup gold diamond pattern it also
had a small pin dot of a pumpkin orange color so the piping
on the edge was made with the spicy pumpkin color. The
contrast lining was a soft celery green which was also
highlighted in the fabric.

My client had two pieces of artwork that she purchased that were
hanging on the opposite wall. We used the colors from the artwork
and brought them out with the fabric that was chosen.

Box pleat valance trimmed with banding

This large bay window was in a family room. We decided to do a "tweed" looking fabric for this box pleat valance and trim the hemline with a darker olive green banding. This valance is board mounted and the results was a nice simple look.

Happy Fabric on a Shaped Cornice Board

This fun and cheerful fabric worked well as a fabric covered cornice board. There were several colors in this fabric to use as accents in her kitchen. The fabric was "outline" quilted and then attached to a cornice board.

The top and bottom edge of the cornice was edged in brown cording to bring out the brown vine in the fabric. Overall the kitchen was a cheerful atmosphere after installing these cornice boards with this fabric ! A kitchen any chef would be happy to cook in !

Patio Door Treatment in a Master Bedroom

This treatment was installed over a patio door, the door opened

into the room so the cornice had to be mounted high enough

for the door to open. The fabric was an upholstery weight

beautiful paisley in olive green, browns and spiced pumpkin colors.

Behind the cornice is a textured sheer from Ado Corporation

fabricated into an "Ado Wrap". The Ado Wrap softens a plain

vertical blind by wrapping the louvers with a sheer fabric that is

snapped to the top of the vanes. Ado fabrics are incredibly easy

to care for, just unsnap it machine wash it and reattach to dry.

This treatment works just like a vertical blind. The louvers can

be rotated or drawn open to clear the window.

An adjoining master bath was also treated with cornice boards with
an eyebrow hemline. A nice finish to this corner window.

Whimsy Polka Dots for a Bathroom

This customer had pink tile on the lower half of the bathroom. Her daughter purchased a shower panel with brown background and multi-colored polka dots. Here is the topper that was fabricated from the shower panel. This pattern is called the 'Madelyn Valance' from Pate-Meadows Designs. I did a few alterations on the pattern and added bright colored piping on the edges. I added the pink along the hemline for the pleated underskirt to give it a nice contrast. Underneath the valance is a Hunter Douglas honeycomb cellular
shade.This shade lowers from the top or raises from the bottom, it is also cordless. An ideal treatment for a small bathroom window !

This happy little valance fit the bill for this elderly widow lady. She was really pleased with the end results !

Recently I had the pleasure of working on a project that was a guest house for a client who had a place for visitors to stay while at their ranch. The guest house walls were finished with "barn wood" with shades of red and khaki, a very rustic look. My client chose a paisley fabric, they wanted simple draw draperies to pull over the double door opening for privacy. The fabric used was from Kasmir Fabrics, pattern : Margarita, color: spice

The hardware that was used was from Helser Brothers. They have a great selection of iron hardware in a lot of finishes. This treatment was mounted on a 1 3/4" pole with just a simple looking collar finial to give that rustic feeling in a canyon brown finish.

New Stage Curtains for Remsen St. Mary's Highschool

Recently these panels and valance were installed shortly before the spring musical performance. The musical "Hair Spray" was scheduled for its first performance Friday, March 25th. The curtains arrived Wednesday, March 23rd so we hurried to get them installed before the production.

The stage curtains were purchased through a great company, Speciality Custom Stage Curtains - LuxOut - Speciality Drapery. This company has great customer support and service ! The panels and valance were made with Encore 22 oz. inherently flame retardant fabric in color royal blue. The logo applied to the center of the valance stands for Remsen St. Mary's.

I couldn't of done the installation without the generous help from my husband, Doug and friend Dean. A big thank you to both of them ! Also, a special thanks to The Bates Family for the very generous donation of the stage curtains !

Next in line for completion are the four "legs". These are acoustical and room divider curtains that will be made with black fire-retardant fabic. They are in desperate need of replacement, there are two panels on each end of the stage. A special thank you to the Oktoberfest committee for donating money towards these panels.

Claudine Valance

I just finished this installation this afternoon. This is the claudine valance trimmed with a brown banding along the top and bottom of the treatment. The bottom hemline also has a contrast blue micro welt cord in slate blue. The valance is hung with loops that slide onto the stem of the 'medallion holders'.

Underneath the valance is a Hunter Douglas Nantucket window shade. The idea is simple, the result is amazing ! Soft fabric 2.5 " vanes are suspended between two sheer panels allowing you to create an endless variety of moods just by tilting the vanes and letting in the precise amount of light you desire.

I completed the job with coordinating throw pillows for the sofa and side chairs. This project included helping my client choose paint colors and carpet. Two walls were painted a slate blue and the other two painted a deep khaki color to contrast with the brown sofa. My client was very pleased with the final results, it was a fun project !

Ladies' Night Out

"Kids Against Hunger" now titled "Then Feed Just One"

This organization is a food packing program that assists

communities in alleviating world hunger. The donation

for this cause is close to my heart because my son went

on a service trip to Honduras during is senior year in

highschool, he was with the group that delivered these

meals and supplies to the needy. This group dug trenches

for a water supply system to one of the villages. It was truely

What kind of window treatment do I put on a sliding patio door ?

Usually I like to treat a sliding door window treatment with the orientation of the door. If the door slides to one side I believe the treatment should as well.

This is an example of a Hunter Douglas Vertiglide. It is made up of same fabrics used for the Hunter Douglas Duette but the fabric has vertical pleats. The fabric slides inside of a headrail and stacks tightly on the side of the opening. This treatment is very efficient which is a big factor for sliding doors.

Shown on the patio door is a Hunter Douglas Skyline Gliding Panel. This system is made up of panels that slide in the track to one side. It is available in a wide range of fabrics and colors. Skyline Gliding panels offer a sleek and contemporary look. Each panel is finished with an interlocking bottom weight which adds stability and smooth operation.

The Hunter Douglas Luminette also works great for patio doors. The Luminette is made up of 100% polyester sheer fabric with crisp, tailored fabric vanes that rotate for the desired amount of light and privacy. The luminette can also draw to run side to clear the patio door completely.

The vertical blind is also a treatment that works nicely for patio doors. The 3.5" louvers rotate to control the light and also the blind can be traversed across the track to clear the window.

The last but not least are draw draperies. A lined drapery adds insulation and softness to a patio door. Keep in mind when the draperies are open and stacked to the side it will cover the window opening quite a bit depending the amount of fullness and fabric used.

Master Bedroom Sheffield Valance with Pleated Sheers

This treatment was made to make the window appear larger and taller. The sheffield valance was board mounted and trimmed with a darker satin blue piping. The sheers were pleated and mounted on a traverse rod using three times fullness.

The fabric used was Mitchell Fabrics pattern, gwyneth, denim and the trim and contrast lining was Mitchell Fabrics pattern, Nichole,denim. My clients wanted just a small geometric design and loved the color blue for their master bedroom ! The fabric used for the sheers was Ado Corp. design#3100 color 75. Ado fabrics are completely washable because they are made with 100% Polyester fabrics. Only Ado has an exclusive Euro-hem along the bottom. This euro-hem makes the sheers hang beautifully !

Customer was happy the way it "lightened" up the room after removing wallpaper and eliminating the panels that were on the sides of the window. A duvet cover was also made out of the small geometric print and a inverted box pleat dust skirt was constructed out of the darker blue fabric that was used on the top treatment lining. This treatment is the Jackson valance using the straight top and bottom hemline method. This simple tailored design offers an inverted pleat using a contrast fabric inside the pleats.

The face fabric was Kasmir Fabrics pattern, Netherlands/Thyme and the lining was Mitchell Fabrics pattern, Lustra/Spruce. The top treatment was mounted on a black Seabrook Hardware pole using the rings and pinch clips to hang the valance.

Mounted underneath the top treatments for privacy were Hunter Douglas 2" Everwood woodblinds in white to match the wood trim around the windows. Everwoods are alternative wood blinds. Wow ! Am I ever glad this job is installed ! The installation took a really tall scaffolding.

These Hunter Douglas Duette Architella cellular shades were installed at the Plymouth County Historical Museum in LeMars, Iowa. The museum was formally the LeMars Community School years ago and has been renovated into a museum for Plymouth County.

This room was located on the fourth floor of the building and was once known as the study hall. To help the energy efficiency of this room the Duette Architella shades were installed on all the windows. The Duette Architella cellular shades offer one of the highest energy efficiency treatments. The day of installation it was bitter cold and it was truly unbelievable when I lowered these shades and found how much cool air it was retaining out of the room. Sophia Top Treatment & Pleated Sheers

This window treatment was installed in a formal livingroom for a recent client.

The top treatment is the "Sophia Valance" from M'fay patterns. We matched the fabric for the top treatment with the clients carpet color, khaki and contrast lined the inside with a deeper chocolate color. The pleated sheers mounted underneath the topper were mounted on a traverse rod and the fabric used was from Ado Corporation. Ado Corporation has a nice selection of textured sheers and the euro hemline makes the pleats hang perfectly ! The client was very pleased with the final results !

Pleated Sheers with Empire Pole Swag

A softer looking window treatment using a textured sheer pleated on a traverse rod and then used again as the empire pole swag. This room was the clients formal livingroom and she liked a nice "airy" look so the sheer fabric from Ado Corporation fit the treatment !

How do I clean my blinds ?

There are many brands and options on blinds available. When someone asks me how to clean their blinds it depends on what type of blind they are. I'm going to give suggestions on different Hunter Douglas cleaning recommendations.

Dusting : Regular light dusting maintains a like-new appearance of most blinds, shades,sheers, & shutters

Vacuuming : For deeper cleaning, vacuum gently with a brush attachment of any vacuum cleaner. Most products may be vacuumed using a vertical stroke, do not use a brush attachment with Hunter Douglas Luminette or Park Lane Privacy Sheers

Compressed air or hair dryer (non-heat setting):Use to blow dust off selected window coverings

Spot-clean: spot-clean shades and blinds with soft cloth or sponge moistened with lukewarm water. Add mild detergent if needed. Blot gently to avoid creasing or damaging the fabric. Rubbing can damage fabrics. Spot-cleaning may result in cleaner areas. (certain honeycomb fabrics should not be spot-cleaned.)

Aluminum Blinds : Use an over-the-counter blind cleaner with a soft cloth

Vinyl and aluminum vertical blinds: Reduce build-up of static electricity by applying a very thin film of detergent on all vanes

Bathtub cleaning/water immersion: This method is used for metal blinds and most, but not all, honeycomb fabrics. Immerse entire shade assembly in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Wash for five minutes by gently moving liquid around with your fingers. Do not immerse headrail on TruRise, EasyRise, LiteRise, Ultraglide, PowerRise, or Vertiglide systems. Rinse with clear water, close shade before removing from rinse water. Hold rails and tilt the shade to allow excess water to drain off. Re-install damp shade into window opening. Lower shade all the way to allow it to dry completely.

In most cases all blinds can be dusted, vacuumed or cleaned with the use of compressed air. Spot cleaning may not work for all blinds. It depends on the content of the fabric, it's best to consult the company that fabricated the blind. You must be certain before you apply water to a shade, it may leave a ring or spot that cannot be removed. Also be careful of the bathtub cleaning method...not all blinds can be immersed in water, again consult the company for more information on cleaning your blind to avoid damaging your blind.

This was the initial rendering sent to my client from a computer program titled "Minutes Matters". This program has helped many of my clients visual the final treatment before the fabric is ordered.
The client really liked the colors in this plaid fabric because she had a collection of birdhouses displayed above the kitchen cabinets that had burgundy,navy and golds.

The bistro valance has a short droop area and is designed to hang from medallions. The face fabric is Kasmir Fabrics pattern: plaid 260 and the contrast lining and covered buttons are Mitchell fabrics pattern, BonVivant color ink. The medallions are from Seabrook Hardware. The bistro valance really looks great above a sink area, if you notice the crown molding above the cabinets kind of projected into the area of the window frame.The medallions worked great to mount the valance sections on without any installation problems. The antique gold finish on the medallions coordinated well with the fabric and the hardware that was used on the cabinets. My client was very happy with the "bistro valance" !

Sheffield Valance

Last week I installed this top treatment in a master bedroom. The valance is called the "sheffield valance".

This valance can be made with or without the jabots on the sides. The shape of the lower hemline can also be straight.

The bottom hemline was banded with a 1" band to blend with the wall color. The customers existing bedspread used both the brown and the light aqua blue in a color blocked pattern. The rounded hemline matched the arched design & rounded edges on the furniture.

The shade mounted underneath this top treatment was a Hunter Douglas honeycomb cellular shade with the cordless lift system called "lite-rise". It also lowered from the top or raised from the bottom to make it an ideal shade for a bedroom setting ! The customer was very happy with the end results !

Empire Pole Swag

I just installed this really great looking empire pole swag. The client wanted an earth-tone light khaki color for the face fabric but really wanted a little color incorporated into the topper. So, we lined the entire treatment with a deep burgundy to bring out the burgundy colors she had used in the furniture. Both fabrics had a soft narrow stripe woven into the fabric. The face fabric was Ado Design 3600 color 72 and the burgundy lining was Mitchell Fabrics : Pattern Verve, Color Wine.

The entire treatment is mounted with velcro on a 2" fluted Kirsch Wood Trends Classics and the finials are titled oak leaf cone. The finish on the hardware was estate oak which blended nicely with the clients trim around the window. This empire pole swag was a striking focal point as you entered the room !

An "Eyebrow Shaped" Cornice Board with Stationary Panels

My client was very pleased with the window treatment I completed this morning. When I first met the couple they didn't have any window treatment on the windows other than some worn cellular shades with those tangling cords hanging down on each shade. Well, the problem was solved by going with Hunter Douglas Architella Cellular Shades using the "lite-rise" system on each shade in the bow window. Lite-rise is a cordless shade so there are no cords exposed when raising or lowering the shade.

I am fortunate to have a great program from "Minutes Matters" where I can do a rendering of a window treatment to show my client before placing the order. Below is a sketch of the window before it was complete.

This sketch gave my client a better visual of the project before hand. The program allows me to import all kinds of designs and dimensions according to the size of the window. It will also let me import the fabric that was chosen. The final treatment is pictured below.

The fabric on the "eyebrow cornice" and the panels was a drapery weight from Mitchell Fabrics. The cornice board is edged with cording from Ado Corporation. This livingroom / diningroom area was such a pleasure to pull together. The Bordeaux Valance

The Bordeaux Valance from M'Fay Patterns has a simple flat scalloped section enhanced by only one shallow pleat to give it softness. Seperate tail sections overlay the seams and the valance is finished off on each side with a jabot.

The fabric used was Carole Fabrics , pattern-cafe, color- mustard. Lining was Carole Fabrics, pattern- manhatten, color - mustard. The valance was also interlined to give it some thickness & body. The trim was from Ado Corporation : Design K1014A Color 207.

The shades underneath this treatment are Hunter Douglas 3" Silhouette, from the Matisse Collection, color : brushed gesso. This was a great treatment for a bow window in a formal diningroom. The client was very pleased with the results !

The Sophia Valance

A recent project that I completed was called the Sophia Valance. This soft valance consisted of a center section, two horns, and two side sections. The center section was altered to make it work for this width of a window. All pieces were sewn together to create one valance before attaching to a mount board.

At the lower edge of the valance I sewed a contrast burgundy piping which was the accent color in the bedspread. This valance was a very simple tailored look. The fabric on the face was Kasmir Fabrics pattern Boxwood, Stone. The lining was Mitchell Fabrics pattern Camelot, Endive.

Underneath the valance I mounted Hunter Douglas honeycomb cellular shades with the cordless feature.
These shades could also lower from the top as well as raise from the bottom. They are very energy efficient especially for this window having a west exposure with very little shade. The perfect shade for a bedroom !

Claudine Valance

Recently I fabricated the "Claudine Valance" from Pate Meadows. I used a great computer program to design the treatment first. The program is called Minutes Matter. I designed a rendering using the colors and style of the top treatment and added colors to the sketch. Below is the preliminary design.

The final valance looked like this !

If you look closely in the photo below I used a peacock blue for the banding, buttons and the lining color. The edges were also trimmed with a moss green micro piping.

The shade underneath is a Hunter Douglas 3/8" cellular honeycomb shade top-down/bottom-up with the cordless lift system.

The decorative hardware was Seabrook Hardware

As a member of the local Kiwanis group I was on a committee for the Blue Ribbon Campaign. Kiwanis is a world wide service organization. The principle core of the Kiwanis mission is the belief that the most effective way to enhance a community is to enhance its children. They provide young people and adults with opportunities to perform community service and develop leadership skills. The Blue Ribbon Campaign is a memorial to children who have been touched by abuse and neglect, and a reminder that everyone has a job to do to prevent the maltreatment of children.

In the spring of 1989, a Virginia grandmother began the Blue Ribbon Campaign as a tribute to her grandson. The 3-year-old died at the hands of his mother's abusive boyfriend. Since 1989, thousands of people nationwide wear or display the blue ribbon during April - National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month to create awareness of the need to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Child abuse can happen in any home, in any neighborhood, within any family. Bathroom Window Treatment

I recently completed this window treatment for a client who re-decorated her guest bathroom. This eyebrow shaped cornice is made with Kasmir Fabrics pattern : Watauga : Shadow. The cording that trimmed the bottom hemline and the top of the cornice was from Mitchell fabrics # BR310 color walnut. A cornice board is a padded face board with many style of hemline options. It is mounted with angle irons. The shade mounted on the inside of the frame underneath the cornice was a Hunter Douglas Silhouette in color Summer Khaki. The Silhouette soft fabric vanes are between two sheer facings that soften and diffuse light. The vanes tilt for the desired amount of light and privacy which make it a great treatment for a bathroom. The colors blended nicely with her new vanity and shower. She used oil rubbed bronze fixtures that gave the room a brown accent color so we carried out the brown on the cording of the cornice board. My client was very pleased with end results !

Swoop Valance for a Small Window

This valance is called the "swoop valance " My client had small highlights of black in the wall tile and the flooring of this bathroom that she was going to keep. Therefore I trimmed the edges with black cording and gimp. The fabric is mounted as a slouched effect on a top board that was skirted with the contrast purple fabric that was also used in the banding on the lower edge of the valance and the covered buttons. The face fabric was Kasmir Fabrics , pattern PR129 color , grape. It has small flecks of purple and black. The paint used was Vogel Paints : #8480, a soft lavender. Overall the treatment worked well for a small window and still coordinated with the black accents in the room.

I've just completed a window treatment titled "bistro valance swag" This bistro valance swag has a deep droop area and is designed to hang from medallions or a pole as a valance. The valance,tails and covered buttons were made using Mitchell Fabrics, pattern pucker, color woodrose. The contrast cuff on the valance and tails was Mitchell Fabrics, pattern chintz, color mulberry. The treatment was mounted on "pate meadows" medallions. The fabric complimented the clients leather sofa.

This is a very inexpensive window topper using one standard pillow sham and half of a European sham (26x26) for the center point.

This was board mounted using coordinating shams that matched the bedspread. My client had two windows like this so all total we used one pair of standard pillow shams and one square European pillow sham.

What window treatment works well for a tall arched window ?

My client contacted me several weeks ago to finish off this large area of windows with custom window treatments. The client had a big problem with sunlight coming in from the windows at the top portion of the window just certain times of the day. She wanted something to cut off the direct sunlight only at those times when the sunlight glared into the livingroom. The other issue we had was that the window needed some softness to dismiss the hard lines that appeared with this window. My client already had roman shades installed on the lower half of the window for privacy.

Here is the design we created ! The top treatment is a "eyebrow" shaped cornice board that matched the shape of the window. On the two center divisions were jabots and along the outer returns were cascades. Because this cornice was 198" wide it was made into three sections for easier installation. Installed underneath the cornice were stationary panels that were approx. 190" long !

For the issue of sunlight a Hunter Douglas Designer Screen shade was installed the full width of all three windows. This is a photo showing the screen shade lowered on the top windows.

Since 1990 more than 200 infants and young children have died from accidental strangulation by window cords. Child proof your home. Many functional window treatments involve unsafe cords. Cords can be a chocking hazard.
